For some reason that the reaction among right-wingers to the sexual assault of Lara Logan is "what did she expect?/serves her right" surprises me. You'd think I'd have learned by now, but no, I sit here genuinely appalled at the behavior of my fellow human beings.

As long as my cred as a cynic is being thrown out the window, I might as well say, "Fucking really? Do you fucking people wake up in the morning and ask yourselves 'What would be the worst thing I could say or do today?' and go from fucking there? Fuck me you're pieces of shit."

A Conservative's Guide to What's Happening Egypt

It's pretty simple, really:

1. The unrest in Egypt and Tunisia are the result of our invasion of Iraq, validating the Bush Doctrine and vindicating Cheney; unless

2. You'd like to point out that Iraq is now peaceful because of the war and installation of democracy, thereby validating the invasion of Iraq and disproving the liberal thesis that you can't create a democratic society through invasion; unless

3. You'd like to worry that the uprising in Egypt is being led by the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam may take control, something Iraq avoided, thereby validating the invasion of Iraq; unless

4. You'd like to argue that the uprising is a genuine democratic revolt that could be co-opted by the Muslim Brotherhood unless Obama sends messages of support to the democratic resistance as he failed to do with the Green Revolution in Iran.

Any way, you win and the liberal islamofascists lose!

This Is What Blogs Are For, No?

Writing out of frustration:

Member-run unions are, apparently, great, right up until the moment that your members start telling you that they would like to not receive quite so many mailings related to the upcoming political election. At that point, they somehow (get a team of monks on it!) transition from members whose opinions we value and nominally represent into whiners who need to suck it the fuck up and realize that if Obama loses this election we're all going to hell.

I agree that unions have the right and duty to inform their members about the upcoming election, who the union supports, and why. I fully accept that union members genuinely value receiving the union's opinion and facts about the candidates. I think our greatest resource is our willingness to hit the streets and organize, while the Republicans split their time between the pews and the links. I think this election is very important.

I also happen to believe that one of our greatest strengths is our willingness to listen to our members. We are not thundering from the pulpit, we are not hinting that everyone will lose their jobs if they don't vote for the pro-business party. We listen to our members. We can tailor our message to their needs. We shape them and, in turn, they shape us. We're all in it together.

That's why I refuse to see members who complain about the relentless propagandizing from their union as anything less than brothers and sisters who are trying to tell me that the union's tactics are not sitting right with them. And I'm not talking about Republican members here. I am talking about people who are protesting the sheer volume of the propaganda they receive from their union(s), from mailings to phone calls. We need to listen to them at the risk of alienating them. Only listening to the voices that agree with us is what got us into this fucking mess in the first place. (I mean that sentence as broad as it reads. The whole idea of the organizing model is that we engage all of our brothers and sisters. If the organizing model is not the way out of every mess we're in, I still haven't heard what is).

Anyway, back to the grind. You might be surprised to find that your union supports all the Democrats and is against all the Republicans. You will receive 1-2 mailings per day to that effect for the next 38 days.

McCain would be best president

I want to encourage people to vote for John McCain for president. He has the maturity, political, military and foreign policy experience needed by a president of the United States.

He supports school vouchers and has the morals for the job. I think McCain’s support for offshore drilling and affordable nuclear energy are good. I also like his wife for her charity work and loyalty to our country.

Barack Obama has none of the above experience. His record is so thin that it barely exists. What record he does have has qualified him as the most liberal member of Congress. He is not loyal or patriotic to the United States. I am thinking about his lack of loyalty in not wanting to wear a flag pin and taking the U.S. flag symbol off his airplane.

He has made major flip-flops on positions during his campaign. I doubt his Christianity, and I think he would say anything to be president. He has talked bad about his white grandmother and threw out his pastor when it was going to hurt his symbolism. When he spoke to the Germans, he sounded like “one worldism.”

After four years of him “remaking” our nation, the people would have lower morals, bad judges would be appointed, we would have higher taxes, the national debt would be higher and there would be more government regulations.

Please support McCain for president.

It may have occurred to you to ask why it is such a huge deal that John Edwards cheated on his wife, but not a huge deal that McCain cheated on his first wife. You may have asked this question, perhaps rhetorically, over dinner with your wife or at a ballgame with a conservative friend.

Fortunately, the Republicans have answers.

1. John McCain was a prisoner of war for five and a half years.

2. Edwards' wife has cancer, whereas McCain's wife was merely crippled in a car accident.

3. Five and a half years. Beatings every day.

4. It was thirty years ago.

5. Senator Byrd used to be in the Ku Klux Klan.

6. Five and a half years of beatings every day.

7. John Edwards condemned Bill Clinton for having an affair. (He voted "not guilty" twice, unlike McCain, who voted "guilty").

8. You try being a POW for five and a half years and see if you don't cheat on your wife.
