Prisonship Self-Cleaning Survey Module (c)

The "Say Something Nice About Led Zep" edition.

The other nite, Dave3544 questioned my loyalty to the albums of Led Zeppelin. I mean, jeepers!

Let's all take a moment to mention something specific we love about the boys.

For me, I'll mention "Dancing Days." It's so, so weird. The Jimmy Page gtr melody is so, so weird. It's total DC math-rock at points. What a weird, awesome song. Led Zep!

  1. I'm actually (still) a huge fan of Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti, especially the latter. I'll fully 'fess up to loving "Kashmir."

  2. I hate them less than I did coming out of high school when they were the "jock" band.

    Is that nice?

  3. Led Zepplin III is as underrated as IV is overrated. Good tracks on the former; I would happily go the rest of my life without hearing the latter, if FM radio didn't exist.

  5. I've got no issue with Zeppelin, and would have self-identified as a fan in my younger days. But since I can't resist following in Dave's backhanded compliment mold, I'll offer this: When I was in high school I had a scandalous (and untrue) sexual rumor spread about me by a "friend." From what I was able to reconstruct, "You Shook Me" featured prominently in the description of what I was alleged to have done. I will always associate that memory with that song...but since I was repeatedly assured that, true or not, I should be "flattered" by this, I guess in some weird way you could characterize this as "saying something nice."

  6. I don't often put them on the ol' stereo or ipod, but when Led Zep comes on the radio, I always listen. While I love the later albs, I prefer the riff-based first two albums over the others. My bass style is largely derived from the guitar riffs on those two albums.

Jesus, I'm really considering buying How the West was Won. Is it good?

  9. All I have to add to this thread is that last Friday when I was shopping for used records I found a huge pile of copies of 'Houses of the Holy' wedged in between Bach and Bartok in the (long) unshelved (and yet sorted) unsorted classical records section. Jeff, who runs the store Friday - Monday, thanked me copiously since he had assumed that there was nothing at all saleable in that mess.

  10. ditto on HTWWW. It's AWESOME.
I wanna throw a quick shout out for another LD III track, "The Lemon Song", for it's juxtaposing groovy
A part, with its frenzied B part.
"Til the juice run down my leg"
