I dunno. That ad just seems too muddled to me to be effective. It's not clear that the guy knew McCain enough to render a judgment on anything other than hearsay.
That said, I think I'm probably reacting more to the obvious Rovian swiftboating. I'll concede that it can be effective, but it makes me uncomfortable to be our side doing it. Especially in this environment, I think there's a lot more effective lines of attack to reveal his lack of fitness for the job, and going after his POW status - even if it's overplayed - (it's a classic Rove tactic) could backfire on Ds who have been stuck with the DFH soft on security stigma.
